The standard input shafts and drive plates
supplied with virtually every popular engine dyno are of the
same basic design that has been in use for over 10 years. They
were never designed to repeatedly handle the torque of current
350 cubic inch race engines, so they certainly can't handle the
output of a 500 or 600 incher. If you've run many high output
engines on your dyno, you've learned about this shortcoming
first hand; chances are, you've replaced the input shaft and
drive plate more than once.
Now you can eliminate the problem. The
SuperDrive Assembly, available for all SuperFlow dynos, is
specifically designed to routinely handle continuous torque
loads of over 1000 lbs./ft. Each SuperDrive Assembly consists of
a 2" diameter, 10-spline input shaft that's machined from pre-
heat treated premium quality steel alloy billet, and a drive
plate manufactured of 6061-T6 aluminum.
Heat treating the billet before it's machined
into an input shaft assures the ultimate in strength and
precision. Add the sheer mass of a 2" diameter and you've got a
shaft that's almost unbreakable.
The 13-1/4" diameter drive plate that's included
in each SuperDrive Assembly is similarly engineered for maximum
durability. Rather than limit pins, which can only handle about
450 lbs./ft., of torque (repeatedly) the SuperDrive plate
Incorporates a spring-loaded geared center hub which allows four
degrees of movement in each direction before the gear teeth on
the hub lock against those on the plate.
Multiple clutch bolt patterns are another
feature of the drive plate. With an 11" Borg and Beck, a 10-1/2"
Long and two 11" Long (one with 3/8" holes, the other with 5/16"
holes) bolt patterns, the drive plate can be attached to any
standard single-disc type flywheel. Also available are drive
plates that attach to a Tilton/Quartermaster style multi-disc
flywheel. All SuperDrive drive plates are designed to eliminate
time- consuming flywheel changes. With the proper SuperDrive
plate, testing can be done with the same flywheel and starter
that will be used when the engine is installed in a vehicle.
